Weekly Rig Count Update – Mixed Signals Across Regions

This week’s Baker Hughes rig count shows mixed activity across global markets. The U.S. continues its downward trend, shedding 2 rigs to settle at 576—28 fewer than this time last year. In contrast, Canada added 7 rigs this week, bringing its total to 121, a year-over-year increase of 7. International activity remains steady for the moment, though the monthly total is down by 8 rigs, with a significant 87-rig drop compared to last year.

These fluctuations highlight an industry still adjusting to global demand pressures, commodity pricing volatility, and regional investment shifts. While North America sees diverging trajectories, international rig activity remains subdued, suggesting continued caution in long-cycle project commitments.
